Pruning enquiries often begin with a practical concern: growth is getting close to a building, branches extend into a space you use, or the tree’s shape has changed. Describe that concern in your own words. You do not need to select a technical pruning term before contacting us.

Describe the outcome you want

Tell us which tree you mean, where it is and what you would like to improve. Is the aim to create more usable space, manage a particular branch or discuss the overall shape? An approximate size and photographs taken from the ground can help explain the setting.

Include nearby buildings, boundaries and access details. If you have noticed a recent change in the tree, say when it began. Avoid climbing to inspect it or attempting to remove a hanging branch yourself.

Keep the tree and the task distinct

A request to reduce growth does not automatically mean that pollarding or removal is appropriate. The approach needs to be discussed for the individual tree. Mention any previous work you know about, especially if you are asking to repeat it.

Before agreeing a date, raise any known tree protection or permission questions and describe how the work area is reached. Clear information at the enquiry stage helps establish what needs to be considered.
