Tree removal

If you are considering removing a tree, start by explaining why. It may no longer fit the space, be affected by damage, or form part of a wider garden plan. Removal is a significant change, so a useful enquiry describes both the tree and the result you are hoping for.

Tell us about the surroundings

Let us know where the tree stands in relation to buildings, fences, paths and neighbouring land. Include any access limitations, such as steps, a narrow side passage or a shared driveway. If there are overhead lines or other obvious constraints, mention them without approaching or investigating them yourself.

Photographs from a safe position can help show the layout. They do not replace a discussion about the work, and they cannot establish the condition of a tree on their own.

Agree the scope before work starts

Tell us about any known protection or permission requirements so these can be checked before work is agreed. Also explain what you want the area to look like afterwards. Do not assume that removal of a standing tree automatically includes every aspect of clearing or reworking the surrounding garden.
